Exclusive House M
Built with an 8 meter high wall, with connecting underground corridors between two houses, the client specifically requested 4 different scenes from low to bright intensity, using different sources, power and beam angles.
The two houses; the owner’s house and a guest house, are connected by a 15m underground corridor. This tunnel needed to be well illuminated in order to make the connecting journey feel bright and safe. The lighting is indirect, placed in channels of lateral walls in such a way that it shed light towards the floor along the entire length of the walls. Light follows architecture here and in this case connects without discontinuities.
In the main house, the greatest challenge in terms of lighting was the staircase on the northern side which extends over three floors and frames the opening of the panoramic lift. It was necessary to make this very important segment of the house, visible from the main entrance into the house, even more attractive and warmer since it is defined by three clear vertical surfaces (deprived of any special intervention).
To maintain the simplicity and clean lines of the architecture and yet create high quality lighting was not an easy task. Lamps were specially made for this occasion after the design. Horizontal linear lamps, which extend from the basement level over the entire surface of the walls in different lengths and seemingly set in random order, create dynamics and draw attention to this frequently neglected segment of residing.
The play with linear forms of lighting continues in the gym. Here, fluorescent lines run from the ceiling down the wall in parallel lines. The lines are discontinuous in an irregular pattern in order to create a sense of movement and thus motivate the user of the gym.
Scenes, light intensity and the quantity of natural light in the rooms are regulated by means of a system for managing artificial light and daylight.
The southern side of the house offers maximum pleasure of the surrounding vista through large and glass walls. When the room lighting was created, great attention was paid not to disturb the transparency and hinder the view. A larger part of the lighting fixtures is concealed in the ceiling or walls, placing an observer in a dilemma about where the light is coming from. Just a few decorative lamps create cosiness of a home.
The swimming pool on the ground floor of the house, facing the sea, comes alive with colour spectrum during the darkness of night.
Filix products are used as linear lines of light, as well as facade lighting found in outdoor applications. A range of mounting systems and standard products provide the designer with the ability to specify flush in the ground or wall products, surface mounted systems as well as field-bendable, underwater rated continuous LED products.
